Team Spotlight - Jason Plumlee

Get to know our team members here at Sterling Services! We spoke with Jason Plumlee, our regional director, to learn more about his life and how he ended up at Sterling Services.

Jason is originally from Cicero, IL, and then grew up in the Central IL region for the remainder of his childhood. He returned to the city area to attend and earn his degree in Culinary Arts at Kendall College in Evanston, IL, and now resides in Chicago.

Jason spent the early part of his career in restaurants, catering, and events management. For the bulk of his career, he was leading large-scale food service operational and safety management with Sodexo in the divisions of Colleges & Universities and Corporate Business. While with Sodexo, Jason transitioned from Food Service Management into Facilities and EHS Management which is where he first learned about Sterling Services as a customer of ours.

We asked Jason, with his experience, to share with us a little about the bridge connection between foodservice and the flooring/surface restoration industry. “There are quite a few ways, and here is just a few of the ways that the food service industry relates to the services that Sterling Services offers are:”
  • Attention to Detail and Sanitation: Food Service professionals are well-versed in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment. We understand the importance of thorough sanitation, which aligns with the cleaning and disinfection services offered by Sterling Services, ensuring a safe and clean space for industrial and commercial clients.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Just as in the food service industry, customer satisfaction is paramount for Sterling Services. Those of us from the food service background bring our customer-centric mindset to ensure that clients are pleased with the cleanliness and aesthetics of their facilities.
  • Efficiency and Timeliness: In the food industry, efficiency is crucial to delivering meals promptly. This experience can translate into a strong work ethic and efficiency in executing floor and surface restoration and cleaning tasks, meeting deadlines, and minimizing disruptions for clients.
  • Teamwork: The collaborative nature of restaurant and kitchen work prepares individuals for effective teamwork, an asset when working on large-scale cleaning and restoration projects that often require coordination among team members, other service providers and contractors, and a client’s team and organization.
  • Adaptability: Food service professionals are accustomed to adapting to diverse settings and responding to unforeseen challenges. Sterling Services, Inc. offers a range of specialized services, and experience in the food industry can help adapt to the unique needs of each client.
As a previous facility manager, Jason had a firsthand understanding of how a commercial facility manager can benefit significantly from the assistance of a reliable and quality flooring and surface restoration, maintenance, and cleaning service provider like Sterling Services, Inc. and wanted to share several of those ways:
  • Enhanced Aesthetics: Sterling Services can help restore and maintain the appearance of the facility's floors and surfaces, ensuring they look clean, attractive, and well-maintained. This contributes to a positive first impression for clients, visitors, and employees.
  • Extended Lifespan of Flooring: Regular maintenance and restoration can extend the lifespan of flooring materials, reducing the need for costly replacements. This helps facility managers optimize their budget and make their investments in flooring last longer.
  • Safety and Hygiene: Sterling Services can ensure that the facility meets safety and hygiene standards by cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. This is crucial in industries where cleanliness and sanitation are paramount, such as healthcare facilities, restaurants, and industrial settings.
  • Improved Indoor Air Quality: Proper cleaning and maintenance of flooring and surfaces can contribute to better indoor air quality by removing allergens, dust, and contaminants. This can lead to a healthier and more productive environment for occupants.
  • Cost Savings: By preventing wear and tear on flooring and addressing issues promptly, facility managers can save on repair and replacement costs. Regular maintenance is often more cost-effective than dealing with neglected or damaged surfaces.
  • Customized Solutions: Sterling Services can offer tailored solutions for different types of flooring and surfaces, taking into account the specific needs and challenges of the facility. This ensures that the services provided are well-suited to the environment.
  • Time Efficiency: Outsourcing the maintenance and restoration work to professionals like Sterling Services allows facility managers to focus on their core responsibilities without getting involved in the time-consuming tasks of cleaning and restoration.
  • Sustainability: Many facility managers are concerned about environmental impact. Quality service providers like Sterling Services often use eco-friendly cleaning products and methods, contributing to sustainability goals.
  • Compliance and Regulations: In some industries, there are strict regulations regarding cleanliness and safety. Sterling Services can help facility managers meet these regulatory requirements, reducing the risk of non-compliance.
  • Peace of Mind: With a reliable service provider, facility managers have peace of mind, knowing that their facility's appearance and cleanliness are in capable hands. They can count on consistent and high-quality results.
In summary, partnering with a professional flooring and surface restoration, maintenance, and cleaning service provider such as Sterling Services, Inc. not only ensures the physical well-being of the facility but also supports the overall success of the organization by creating a clean, safe, and appealing environment for clients, employees, and visitors.

We asked him to share a little about his first few days, and Jason has a fun memory from his first day at Sterling Services, “after spending a little inductor time with Dan Davis, Owner and CEO of Sterling Services, in touring and visiting a few clients and their properties. I was taken to an initial meeting he had set up with a Facility and Operations Manager of a high school. As we pull into the parking lot, he says “Ok, this client is going to be your first client. I want you to take the lead on this meeting.” I was humored by the analogy of “sink or swim”, as this was a client that was looking to solve a challenge they had with old tile and grout surrounding their swimming pool. I am pleased to say that I was able to secure the client's trust and our excellent team was able to install a high-build epoxy system applied over the existing tile, saving the client significant costs and headaches by not having to gut and replace their flooring, while providing a safe and aesthetically pleasing floor. Funny enough, the same way I learned how to swim, “sink or swim”.”
